RALPH’S PORTFOLIO OF COMMITTEES
Ralph has offered his service to the community through a variety of committees. The following are a list of those committees, as well as the accomplishments achieved by each one.
Whistler 2020 Development Corporation (WDC) Board of Directors
The RMOW created the WDC to facilitate the delivery of the Whistler Athlete Village for the 2010 Winter Games, and now the further development of the Cheakamus Crossing neighbourhood. RMOW is the sole shareholder of the corporation, however the corporation is a separate entity with no political connection to the local government.
Accomplishments:
Delivery of 100 Units of employee restricted housing at 1340 and 1360 Mount Fee Road.
Recreation and Leisure Advisory Committee (RLAC)
RLAC provides an objective view of the public interest and gives impartial and informed higher level advice to municipal staff and Council on matters related to the provision and delivery of indoor and outdoor recreation and leisure opportunities, services and issues.
Accomplishments:
Continued oversight of RMOW Parks Master Planning Program.
Whistler Public Library Board of Trustees
The Library Act defines each library board as an independent corporation. The board is the employer of the public library and has responsibilities for fulfilling its fiduciary duties such as electing a board chair, appointing a library director, and ensuring financial accountability.
Accomplishments:
The Whistler Public Library was named the recipient of the B.C. Library Association Building Better Communities Award. Development of the “Wonder Lab”. Whistler Chamber of Commerce Excellence Award Whistler Experience Service – Large Business.
Transportation Advisory Group (TAG)
TAG is composed of a group of diverse stakeholders representing Whistler Blackcomb, Tourism Whistler, the Whistler Chamber of Commerce, BC Transit, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, RMOW, and four citizens-at-large.
Accomplishments:
Adoption by Council and continued oversight of the Whistler Transportation Action Plan 2018–2028.
Technology Advisory Committee
The Technology Advisory Committee provides impartial professional technology advice and digital thought leadership to Council on issues referred by Council or community input.
Accomplishments:
Adoption by Council of the Whistler Digital Framework.
Standing Committees of Council
Standing Committees are where much of the “work” of council is done.
Audit and Finance Committee (Chair)
The primary function of the Audit and Finance Standing Committee is to assist Council in fulfilling its financial oversight responsibilities. This oversight includes:
- Review and recommend approval of the RMOW’s annual financial statements, quarterly financial statements; the financial content of the RMOW annual report and any reports required by government or regulatory authorities.
- Review the appropriateness of accounting policies and financial reporting practices used by the RMOW.
- Review the Corporation’s risk management controls and policies.
- Monitor compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations.
Governance and Ethics Committee
The Governance and Ethics Committee provides a focus on governance and ethics that will enhance the performance of Council while maintaining the highest public trust and confidence.
Accomplishments:
- Established and led the process for ongoing development of Councillors via council evaluation survey and report.
- Revised the Council Governance Manual.
- Oversight of the Community Engagement Review Project.
